Westchase Building

Carlyn Ray Designs worked closely with the lead designer of the Westchase Building to select several large vases for the building's entryway that set a bright energetic tone for tenants and guests alike.

The “Westchase” in Houston, Texas was designed by Marilyn Franklin where she paired different rooms with key artworks that have a bright color palette. Carlyn Ray Designs worked closely with Marlyn to place four bright energetic accents in the available niches in the entryway.

In order to get some inspiration and tie the pieces back to the environment, I referenced some of the specific colors found in the mobile which hangs in the adjoining room.

Although each vase is different in shape and color, they have a similar design feature of colored glass either wrapping up the sides or around the circumference of the body of the vase that ties all of the vases together.

The niches were very challenging to work with because the available space is very narrow compared to it’s relative height.

During the selection process, I presented Marilyn with several vases that we arranged together, to explore how they interacted with one another.

By the end of our visit, she found her favorite vases (which were mine too) and they all work beautifully together adding energy, vibrancy, and visual interest to the entryway of the Westchase.
